Our Board of Directors
Mari Carl Fisher was born and raised in Southern Virginia to a family of farmers and gardeners. While attending UNCW, she fell in love with Wilmington. After graduating from UNCW, she spent three years as the Farm Manager for The Fruitful Field, an urban farm in South Florida. She helped start a Buy-1-Give-1 Community Supported Agriculture program and worked with local schools and youth, teaching gardening skills. Upon returning to North Carolina, she spent several years working at the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, building relationships with local farmers and grocery stores to secure healthier food donations for Eastern NC food pantries and feeding programs. She is passionate about seeing all people have access to healthy fresh produce and about building community through the work of gardening and farming. She feels grateful to be a part of Rise Up Community Farm’s mission, serving as Chair of the Board, Executive Director, and Farm Manager.
Carina Sosa Hill was born and raised in Resistencia-Chaco, Argentina. Wilmington became her home in 2004. She studied Elementary Education at the National University of Northern Argentina and has been a passionate Spanish/English Interpreter for the New Hanover County Department of Social Services for the last 11 years. Carina and her daughter, Amaris, love to serve their local community as well as serve abroad. She currently serves a multicultural and bilingual youth group and their families. Carina has been an active part of Rise Up Community Farm since its beginning, bringing her passion for cross-cultural ministry and youth development. Carina currently serves as Vice Chair of the board.
Abbey Nobles is a native Wilmingtonian and high school teacher. She is passionate about making Wilmington an equitable place for all through her involvement in the New Hanover County Schools Equity Team, the arts community having served as a board member of The Dance Cooperative of Wilmington, and as an active member for Rise Up Community Farm. She sees firsthand how everyone needs access to healthy food and the devastating costs fast, easy, unhealthy options play in the community. Abbey is motivated by the change Rise Up Community Farm will bring the the greater Wilmington area and is excited to be a part of this mission. Abbey currently serves as Secretary of Rise Up Community Farm’s board.
Javi Mendoza was born in Mexico and has called Wilmington home since 2003. He is the Pastor of Community Engagement at Port City Community Church and a small business owner. He is a husband and father and enjoys playing soccer, watching football, and serving his community. He was a huge asset in getting Rise Up Community Farm’s infrastructure up and first crops in the ground. Javi is passionate about seeing unity in Wilmington and mobilizing the church to serve our community. He sees firsthand the heart and vision to serve the community behind Rise Up Community Farm and is honored to serve as Treasurer of the board.
